Pesky termites

I see termites a lot. When I am splitting wood for my wood heater I find them in the wood. It is a natural part of the process of the decomposition process of wood that has been in contact with the ground. The termites consume the wood and return it to the soil. In nature it is a good thing. When they get into the wood in your home it is bad. They can destroy a board in just a few days. If left alone, they will move from the first board to the next and beyond. They are very sneaky in their approach. Termites need water and they need food. If they have both then there is nothing to stop them from destroying a home. We use pressure treated lumber in areas that are exposed to the elements and/or the ground. The treatment in the lumber makes it undesirable as food to the termites. We also use masonry products such as block or brick in areas that contact the ground. This is a good deterrent to the destructive bugs.

To Do list

We all have a “To Do” list of things that need to be done for maintenance or repairs around our home.  Finding the time to do them is a challenge.  Check Total Home is here to help.  Let us bring our expertise to you.  The list can be short or long, simple or in-depth.  Even the small stuff is important and deserves attention. A lot of what we do starts with a list of small list. We will take on the small tasks with as much enthusiasm as we would the bigger projects. It all needs to be done.

I keep a “To Do” list on my phone and add things to it as I think of them. You can have a Check Total Home list on your phone and then send it to us when you are ready to get things “Checked” off.

We live in and proudly serve the Carroll County area and have plenty of references available upon request.

Re-roof from a drones eye view

This is a complete re-roof of a house in Carrollton. The process involves the removal of the old roof down to the wood deck. Deck repairs are made as required. New felt is installed over the entire roof area. New 40 year architectural shingles are installed. We used CertainTeed Landmark shingles in a Weathered Wood color for this project.

GFCI Outlets

What is a GFCI?

GFCI of GFI is short for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. It is a special electrical outlet or circuit breaker designed to protect you from electrical shock. It works by monitoring the flow of electrical current to an appliance. It if senses electricity attempting to go to ground, it will trip the internal breaker. This is supposed to happen in less than a second. It works differently than the circuit breaker in the panel. The GFCI works with the breaker in your panel to provide an extra level of protection against electrical shock.
