Tile shower with a fiberglass pan
This bathroom remodel involved the removal of the existing tile shower and floor. The older bathrooms usually have a concrete base over a metal lathe. They can be a challenge to remove. I have seen them as thick as 3″ of concrete. This one was about 1-1/2″ of concrete. Once the tile and base is removed we clean up the sub-floor and then screw down a layer of 1/2″ thick Hardibacker. This gives us a new concrete base for the new tile. Tile in a shower can be ceramic or porcelain. there are natural stone options also at a premium price level. The grout needs to complement the tile bringing out the colors and textures.
